Calgary Judge Charges Parents With Murder
Parents who planned and forcibly confined their child get 25 years in jail
A Calgary judge sentenced Emil and Rodica Radita to 25 years in jail without parole after refusing to treat their son’s diabetes which led to his death on May 7, 2013. Justice finds both parents guilty of first degree murder for failing to provide medically necessary treatment. This means that the Justice found that they intended to kill their own child or more specifically that the killing was planned and deliberate. They were automatically sentenced to life in prison pursuant to section 235 of the Criminal Code with no chance of parole for 25 years.
